What Massage Works Best For Neck and Back Pain?
Benefits of Massage Therapy
If your back, shoulders, and neck have constant pain, you should look into a massage to alleviate the pain.
The first type of massage you should look into receiving is a Swedish massage, also known as massage therapy. Massage therapists start by applying oil or lotion on the skin and use long, smooth strokes to massage your back, shoulders, ad neck.
For a more effective massage, deep tissue massages are used for chronic tight or painful muscles, postural problems, and repititve strain. Deep tissue massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue where many muscle pains originate from. Be aware that there is some discomfort during a deep tissue massage when the therapist kneads and works the deeper muscle layers. It is normal to feel sore for a couple days after the massage.
Another massage option is the Japanese massage form, shiatsu. The client is fully clothed during a shiatsu massage and the therapist applies finger pressure to various pressure points in the body. Because the pressure is localized, the effects feel deep within the muscles.
