How Much to Tip at a Massage Parlor
Massage Parlor Tips
Deciding how much to tip a massage therapist can be very confusing since you have two different types of massage. The first type of massage is from a licensed massage technician for medical purposes. These masseuses generally do not receive tips for their services. The second type of masseuse, non-therapeutic therapists, do work on tips similar to nail technicians and hair stylists.
A rule of thumb is to tip roughly ten to twenty percent of your total bill if getting a massage in a spa, massage parlor, or out call setting. If you receive a medical massage from a chiropractor for example, no tip is necessary.
If your masseuse gives you any extra services, you can usually compensate them with a higher tip amount.
Just like in any service industry, tipping is not mandatory. If you feel the service was subpar, do not feel obligated to tip. On the other hand, you might want to tip more than normal if you received superior service. Therapists are very grateful for tips, but do not expect them from every client.
If you get billed at the end of your session, be sure to look at your bill before tipping your therapist. Since many salons and spas include a predetermined tip on the bill, be sure you are not tipping double the amount you intended to.
